Conservation Display Cases – Protect and Preserve Your Collection

Discover how to conserve valuable artefacts for your museum or exhibition. Our bespoke conservation display cases enable you to inspire and educate for years to come.

We Are Specialists

The Glasshaus team are unique. Our in-house team of designers, manufacturers and installers are specialists in conservation display cases that are built to exact specifications to meet the needs of museums across the world.

Museum artefacts are often old, fragile, valuable or of a high value to society and culture. We know how important it is to protect these objects and provide them with a safe home for years to come.

It is vital that our display cases preserve valuable or fragile objects from deterioration and damage from factors such as humidity and dust, but also provide an accessible viewing platform for visitors.

What Makes Our Conservation Display Cases Special?

We’re proud to be leading providers of conservation display cases for museums and exhibitions across the UK and beyond. Here are just some of the things that make us stand out from the crowd:

Our in-house glass cutting facility means that we can create conservation display cases to your exact requirements. This provides your museum or exhibition with flexibility and allows you to maximise your exhibition space to create accessible and secure displays that engage.

Our Projects

Crafted In-House

The Glasshaus team are diverse and multi-talented. A huge benefit to you (and us!) is that our team can work together closely from initial concept to installation. First, we work closely with curators to come up with a design and then the team use their technical expertise and craftmanship to create your bespoke cases. This allows us to keep our overheads low and collaborate on ideas whenever we need it to maintain the highest of standards.

Our manufacturers are also the very same people who install your conservation display cases.

Lighting is an essential consideration when we design your display cases. The type of lighting you choose depends on the sensitivity of your artefact and the location of your case. We are passionate about working closely with curators to create bespoke solutions that aid in the conservation and protection of your objects.

If you’re not sure which of our lighting solutions works best for you, we’re always happy to help. We can even mockup examples of what your lighting might look like with prototypes from our 3D printer.

For example, our project for the Wimbledon Tennis Museum made use of an unconventional lighting solution. In order to house the famous Wimbledon men’s and ladies’ singles trophies, the lights were fitted outside the case to display these incredible objects to best effect.

For more information on how to choose the right kind of case for your display, Museums and Galleries Scotland have a useful guide.

Conservation Display Cases

Air Exchange & Testing

There are several factors of air exchange we take care into account when we design our conservation display cases.

Firstly, a display case must have a perfect seal. There can be invisible gaps that affect the humidity of the case and ultimately, the condition of the object. We leak test all our cases as standard as part of our installation service.

Secondly, your case must be able to control relative humidity. We advise on the amount of silica gel you need to ensure your case stays at an optimum rate of humidity to prevent any deterioration.

Lastly, we will design a display case to your exact air exchange requirements where needed. We also test it too.
