Desktop Cases
Destop cases are smaller glass vitrines mounted to plinths, tables or walls in some cases. Best suited for a close-up inspection of a select few objects. There are two main options for this.
- Lift off clam
- Hinged case with gas strut assists
The smallest and simplest case is a lift-off clam case with the small steel frame around the base. This is limited to what can be safely lifted. Typically up to 20 kg for one person or 40 kg is two people can easily get either side.
More often we supply desktop cases with a hinge to the rear and gas struts to assist and hold the case in an open position. This can also be done with a solid back and set flush into the table surface.
Plinths
Bespoke plinths to suit can be produced to highlight high-interest objects or angle flat objects.
Lighting
Typically these cases are used with external lighting, but internal lighting is available as stick lights with one or more adjustable led spotlights or goal post lights. We can also incorporate lighting into plinths such as backlit acrylic panels.
Silica gel
Silica gel is either under the case or fitted into bespoke plinths within the case.
Security
Two Abloy locks are used in the bottom and can be suited to any combination, giving the museum sole authorisation to buy additional keys in the future. Various thicknesses of glass can be used depending on the requirements, but standard glass is 9.5mm anti-bandit laminated with an opti-white finish.
